
'Dogs End Season with Win

Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs closed out the 2005-06 season with a 6-5 comeback win over the Toronto Marlies on Saturday night at Copps Coliseum.
The Marlies opened the scoring on the power play at 10:48 of the first period when Tyler Beechey picked up a rebound in front of Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis and slid the puck into the net. Toronto took a 2-0 lead at 13:48 when John Mitchell sent Steve Chabbert in alone and he beat Danis through the legs.
Hamilton cut the Marlies lead to 2-1 at 15:36 when Andrei Kostitsyn passed to Corey Locke, who was positioned in front of the net and redirected the puck behind Toronto netminder Todd Ford.
The Bulldogs tied the game 1:20 into the second period when Francis Lemieux took buried his second attempt over Ford.
The Marlies regained the lead 3-2 while on the power play when Brendan Bell made a pass from the point to Kris Newbury at the side of the Hamilton net, and Newbury one-timed a pass across the crease to Jeremy Williams who beat Danis on the blocker side. Only 2:48 later, Williams put the Marlies up 4-2 when he one-timed a Newbury pass.
The Bulldogs made it 4-3 at 12:03 of the second frame while on the power play when defenceman Danny Syvret blasted a shot from the point which was blocked by Ford but the rebound went right to J-F Jacques who put it in.
At 17:32 of the second period, the Bulldogs were awarded a penalty shot after a Marlies skater covered the puck in the crease with his glove. Kostitsyn took the penalty shot but was denied by Ford. The Bulldogs tied the game at 4-4 with 1:15 remaining the in the second period when Lemieux kicked the puck over to J.J. Hunter who shot it into a wide open net.
Hamilton took their first lead of the game just 1:15 into the third period while on the power play. After Jean-Philippe Cote hit the goal post, Kostitsyn banged home the rebound. The Bulldogs took a two goal lead at the 5:00 mark to make it 6-4 when Duncan Milroy made a pass to Pierre Dagenais in the slot who wired a one-timer past Ford. Beechey rounded out the scoring when he netted his second goal of the game at 9:10 of the third period.
Danis made 28 saves on 33 shots for the win and Ford made 34 saves on 40 shots for the loss.
Hamilton was 2 for 4 on the power play while Toronto went 2 for 5.
