Patzold Shines in Barons 3-1 Win

WINNIPEG, MTB - Dimitri Patzold turned aside 25 Manitoba shots and Tom Cavanagh scored twice as the Barons defeated the Moose Thursday night, 3-1. The game was a penalty filled affair with the team's combining for a season high 151 minutes in infractions.

The first period gathered a combined 65 minutes in penalties with the Barons taking advantage on the power play for a 1-0 lead through twenty minutes. Garrett Stafford snapped a 23 game goal-less drought with his 11th of the year at the 10:11 mark while the Barons skated five-on-three.

Cavanagh then scored his first of two goals just 49-seconds in the middle period to extend the Barons lead to 2-0 through forty minutes of action.

The third period ended with a combined 18 penalty infractions and 78 minutes in penalties. Through the mess of penalties Cavanagh registered the insurance marker with a power play tally at the 2:56 mark of the final frame. Just 1:54 prior to Cavanagh's goal, Prestin Ryan trimmed the Barons lead in half with a goal for the Moose 62-seconds into the period. The Barons and Patzold remained strong down the stretch completing the night with a nine-for-nine performance on the penalty kill.
