Albany Devils News Release
Lowell, Mass. - The Lowell Lock Monsters have signed former University of Maine LW Derek Damon to an Amateur Try-Out contract. In addition, Monsters LW Kevin Estrada has been assigned to the Florida Everblades.
Damon, 25, recently completed his senior season with the Black Bears, finishing with 35 points in 40 games. He set personal high marks in goals, assists and points for his college career, and broke the 100-point barrier during his tenure at the school. The Bangor, Maine native finished with 51 goals, 60 assists and 111 points in 159 games in four seasons. Damon ranked fourth on Maine in scoring as a senior, but led the Black Bears in goals (tied) and points during his junior season. During that 2004-05 campaign, Damon scored a pair of goals at Tsongas Arena against UMass-Lowell, and he also scored a goal in both games of Maine's Hockey East Quarterfinal series with the River Hawks.
Prior to joining the Black Bears, Damon enjoyed success in the Eastern Junior Hockey League with the Exeter Snow Devils, being named an All-Star twice, including a First Team selection in 2000-01. He won a Maine State Championship with St. Dominic's High School and was named the Maine High School Player of the Year in 1999.
Estrada, 23, has been reassigned to the Florida Everblades of the ECHL. Estrada has scored four of his five goals on the season since the end of January, and turned in back-to-back goal-scoring efforts last weekend. The rookie was signed by the Carolina Hurricanes to a contract last summer, after completing his college career at Michigan State University. He recorded 1g-5a-6pts in a previous seven-game stint with Florida. The Everblades begin the opening round matchup in the Kelly Cup Playoffs on Friday against Greenville.
The Monsters have a home-and-home series with the Manchester Monarchs on Friday and Saturday, with Saturday's home game starting at 7:35 p.m. Sunday's game against the Providence Bruins will be the final game of the 2005-06 season, set for a 4:05 p.m. start.
The Monsters are offering a "2-for-1" special for the final weekend of the season, Fan Appreciation Weekend on April 15-16. Individual tickets start at $10 and are now on sale at the Tsongas Arena box office, which is open from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Contact the Lock Monsters ticket office at (978) 458-PUCK (7825) for more information.
All games can be heard live on 980 WCAP, and viewed through B2 Networks, the official broadband provider of the AHL, with the "Voice of the Lock Monsters" Ryan Johnston. Log on to www.lockmonsters.com to watch or listen online.
