
Sound Tigers Announce 2003-04 Schedule & Start Times

BRIDGEPORT, CT â The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have announced their schedule for the 2003-04 regular season. The Sound Tigers announced their 80-game slate, including 40 home contests, in conjunction with the release of the League-wide schedule.
The Sound Tigers will begin the 2003-04 regular season on the road versus their archrival, the Hartford Wolf Pack, on Friday, October 10th. Their home opener at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard will be the following night, Saturday, October 11th, when they host the Philadelphia Phantoms at 7:05 p.m. Other highlights of the schedule include:
â¢The renewal of last year's playoff rivalries with the first visits of the season by the Binghamton Senators on Monday, October 13th and the Manchester Monarchs on Saturday, December 13th.
â¢A Thanksgiving-weekend visit by Hartford on Friday, November 28th, as well as an additional Friday game on October 24th, two Saturday games and a Sunday game versus the Wolf Pack in Bridgeport.
â¢Four weekday matinees including Binghamton's visit on Columbus Day, Monday, October 13th at 4:05 p.m.; a Veterans Day match up with the Norfolk Admirals on Tuesday, November 11th at 4:05 pm.; an educationally-themed school-day special versus the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Wednesday, December 17th at 11:05 a.m. and a 4:05 p.m. game against the Worcester IceCats during Winter Break on Tuesday, February 17th.
â¢Six three-game home stands, as well as an eight-game home stand from Saturday, February 28th through Sunday, March 14th and a four-game home stand from Saturday, April 3rd through, Saturday, April 10th.
â¢A Thursday, January 22nd road game versus the Albany River Rats at the Continental Airlines Arena, which is the home of Albany's NHL affiliate, the Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils.
â¢A two-game road trip to visit the Utah Grizzlies on Friday, October 31st and Saturday, November 1st.
â¢Seven straight roads games from Friday, December 19th through Wednesday, December 31st including five games in six nights starting the day after Christmas and ending on New Year's Eve.
â¢A pair of two-game road trips to Norfolk to visit the Admirals on Saturday, January 10th and Sunday, January 11th, as well as Saturday, March 27th and Sunday, March 28th.
Weekends and holiday breaks dominate the Sound Tigers' schedule with 62 games slated for Friday, Saturday or Sunday and 15 games in December and 12 in February including eight at Harbor Yard. The month-by-month breakdown of the schedule (with the number of home games listed in parenthesis) is nine October games (five), 11 November games (five), 15 December games (six), 12 games each in January (four) and February (eight), 15 March games (eight) and six April games (four). The day-by-day breakdown of the schedule (with the number of home games listed in parenthesis) is 20 Fridays (five), 26 Saturdays (13), 16 Sundays (ten), one Monday home game, three Tuesdays (two), 11 Wednesdays (eight) and three Thursdays (one).
The 2003-04 season will be the Sound Tigers' third in the AHL and first under the guidance of new Head Coach Greg Cronin.
