The Providence Bruins announced today their schedule for the upcoming 2003-04 season, the 12th in franchise history. The Black and Gold, under the direction of new head coach Scott Gordon, will play an 80-game schedule, with all games against their 13 Eastern Conference rivals. The season opens up at home on Friday, October 10 at 7:05 p.m. against the Springfield Falcons.
The Bruins, who will play this season in the new seven-team Atlantic Division, are slated to play 10 games apiece against each of their six divisional opponents. Those teams are the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Lowell Lock Monsters, the Manchester Monarchs, the Portland Pirates, the Worcester IceCats and Springfield. This produces a total of 60 games against Atlantic Division rivals.
The Black and Gold will also face off with each of the seven teams in the East Division. They meet Albany River Rats, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and the Hershey Bears four times each. Providence plays against the Binghamton Senators, the Norfolk Admirals, the Philadelphia Phantoms and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins twice each.
The Bruins 40-game home schedule features 34 weekend dates. Providence will play 21 games on Friday night, 11 games on Sunday afternoon and two Saturday night contests. In addition, three games will be played on Wednesday night and one on a Tuesday night, while there are also two special Monday afternoon games. One Wednesday night game will be played on Thanksgiving Eve, November 26, at 7:05 p.m. against the Springfield Falcons. The two Monday afternoon games are holiday dates. The Bruins and Binghamton Senators will play at 4:05 p.m. on Martin Luther King Day, January 19. The Bruins and Norfolk Admirals will face off at 4:05 p.m. on Presidents Day, February 16. In addition, fans can spend a weekend with the Black and Gold in October. The Bruins will play at home for an entire weekend, beginning on Friday, October 24 at 7:05 p.m., when they host the Albany River Rats. They will host the Lowell Lock Monsters the next night at 7:05 p.m., before wrapping up the weekend on Sunday, October 26 at 4:05 p.m. against the Manchester Monarchs.
The busiest month of the season for Providence will be March, with the team playing 14 games. The Bruins play a season-high seven home games during December and March, and a season-high nine road games during January.
