Falcons Announce 2003-04 Schedule

Springfield, MA – The Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League today announced the club’s 2003-04 regular season schedule. The team will begin the 80-game campaign on the road versus the Providence Bruins on Friday, October 10th. The Falcons will host the Albany River Rats in the home opener of the club’s 10th anniversary season on Saturday, October 11th at the Springfield Civic Center.
The Falcons will play 37 of their 40 home games this season on weekend dates. Springfield will host 14 Friday games, 17 Saturday contests, and six Sunday match-ups. The Falcons remaining three home dates will fall mid-week with one game slated for a Tuesday and two contests to be played on Wednesdays. Start times for Falcons home games this season will be 7:35 p.m. for Friday and Saturday games, 7:05 p.m. for mid-week games, and 4:05 p.m. for Sunday contests.
The Falcons will complete their 2003-04 regular season schedule on Sunday, April 11th in Maine versus the Portland Pirates. Springfield will wrap up the home portion of the regular season schedule on Saturday, April 10th against the Manchester Monarchs.
“This is probably the best schedule we’ve had in our ten years, not only from a fan standpoint with the 37 weekend home games, but also from a travel and competitive standpoint for our players,” said Falcons President and General Manager Bruce Landon.
For the best view of the FalconsÂ’ exciting 10th anniversary season fans are encouraged to order their 2003-04 season ticket packages now. Full and Half-Season Ticket Packages are available through the Falcons team office which can be contacted at (413) 739-3344. Due to renovation efforts, the seating capacity of the Civic Center will be reduced this season.
Listed below are some key dates from the FalconsÂ’ 2003-04 schedule:
Friday, October 10th - The Falcons kick off their 10th anniversary season on the road against the Providence Bruins.
Saturday, October 11th - Springfield hosts the Albany River Rats in the 2003-04 home opener.
Friday, October 17th - The Manchester Monarchs, whose lineup may include former Falcons Joe Corvo and Chris Schmidt, visit Springfield in the first of five meetings between the clubs at the Civic Center.
Saturday, October 18th - The Providence Bruins, once again a division rival in the new Atlantic Division, make their first of five appearances at the Springfield Civic Center.
Wednesday, October 29th - The Norfolk Admirals make their first appearance at the Civic Center since November 21st, 2001.
Sunday, November 9th - The Falcons visit Portland in what could mark the return of former Pirates Peter and Chris Ferraro to the Cumberland County Civic Center.
Saturday, November 29th - The Falcons host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for the first time since April 4th, 2001.
Sunday, November 30th - Former Falcons goaltender Patrick DesRochers could make a return to the Civic Center as the Lowell Lock Monsters make the first of five visits to Springfield.
Friday, December 26th – The Falcons hosts the Hartford Wolf Pack in the first of five match-ups between the rivals in Springfield.
Wednesday, December 31st - The Falcons visit Hartford for a New YearÂ’s Eve clash with the Wolf Pack.
Friday, January 9th - The Philadelphia Phantoms will come to town for the teamÂ’s first appearance since January 19th, 2002.
Saturday, February 14th - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers make their lone appearance in Springfield this season in a ValentineÂ’s Day match-up.
Friday, March 12th - Falcons host the Hartford Wolf Pack in Springfield for the fifth and final time of the regular season.
Sunday, April 4th - The Hershey Bears will visit the Falcons for the first time since October 20th, 2001. The game will likely mark the return of several former Falcons to Springfield as Hershey begins an affiliation with the Tampa Bay Lightning this season.
Saturday, April 10th – The Falcons host the Manchester Monarchs in the club’s final home game of the regular season.
Sunday, April 11th – The Falcons visit the Portland Pirates in the 2003-04 regular season finale.
