Norfolk Admirals Unveil 2003-04 AHL Schedule
July 31, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Norfolk Admirals News Release
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. â Today, the Norfolk Admirals released their regular season schedule for the 2003-04 American Hockey League (AHL) season. The Admirals will begin the 2003-04 campaign on the road at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (Pittsburgh) on Wednesday, October 8 at 7:05 p.m. The Blue and Gold will travel for three contests following that match up before playing their first home game on Friday, October 17 against the Albany River Rats (New Jersey Devils) at 7:30 p.m.
The Admirals face 15 of the other 27 AHL clubs this year, but only two teams outside Norfolk's Eastern Conference: defending Calder Cup Champ, Houston (Minnesota), and last year's first round playoff opponent, San Antonio (Florida). Ten match ups each against fellow East Division foes Hershey (Colorado/Tampa Bay), Philadelphia (Philadelphia) and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton once again dominate the Admirals' slate this year.
The Blue and Gold will renew old rivalries in 2003-04, as they face the Providence Bruins (Boston Bruins) for the first time since 2000-01 and the Hartford Wolf Pack (New York Rangers) for the first time since 2001-02. Norfolk will not face the AHL squad from Chicago (Atlanta) this season, as they have the previous two campaigns. Other teams that will not make a regular season jaunt to Norfolk include Rochester (Buffalo), Syracuse (Columbus), Cincinnati (Anaheim) and the newest addition to the AHL, Toronto (Edmonton).
Fourteen of the Blue and Gold's first 20 contests will take place on the road, including a franchise-record 10-game swing that starts on Sunday, October 26 at Hershey and wraps up on Tuesday, November 11 at Bridgeport (New York Islanders). Fourteen of the last 20 matches of the regular season are slated for the friendly confines of Norfolk Scope, although the Admirals conclude the 2003-04 regular schedule of championship games with three contests on the road, April 8 through April 10.
Norfolk's complete 2003-04 AHL schedule follows.
