July 31, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Adirondack Phantoms News Release
(PHILADELPHIA, July 31, 2003) - The Philadelphia Phantoms today announced they will open their eighth season on Friday, Oct. 10 at 7:05 p.m., when they host the Binghamton Senators at the Wachovia Spectrum. The contest is the first of 80 on Philadelphia's schedule during the 2003-04 American Hockey League season.
As part of the AHL's new realignment, Philadelphia is now in the Eastern Conference's East Division along with the Albany River Rats, Binghamton, Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Hershey Bears, Norfolk Admirals and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The Phantoms will be facing a league-high 19 different teams in 2003-04, with 52 of their 80 games against fellow East Division foes. Thirty-four of Philadelphia's 40 home games are scheduled on weekends.
Philadelphia's two instate rivals - Hershey and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton - will be coming to town a combined 11 times this season. The Bears visit for the first time on Friday, Nov. 7 and also on Dec. 26 for the Phantoms' annual Friday-after-Christmas game. Wilkes-Barre's first trip to Philadelphia is set for Friday, Nov. 28 at the Wachovia Center during the Phantoms' regular post-Thanksgiving game.
The Phantoms have a total of three games scheduled for the Wachovia Center, beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 12 with the team's second School Day Game. The contest at 11:05 a.m. vs. the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks will take place in front of thousands of children from all across the Delaware Valley. Philadelphia's third game at the Center is on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 3:05 p.m. vs. the Milwaukee Admirals.
Philadelphia's longest homestand of the 2003-04 season is five games from Jan. 25-Feb. 6, while a season-high seven-game road trip is scheduled from Feb. 21-March 6. The Phantoms' final home game will be on Sunday, April 4 vs. Binghamton and the regular-season finale is set for Sunday, April 11 at Hershey.
"We really like how the 2003-04 Phantoms schedule turned out," said Chief Operating Officer Frank Miceli. "There are more important divisional games than last year and more weekend dates for the whole family to share together. We are also working on an exciting promotional schedule that will make attending Phantoms games even more enjoyable."
