Syracuse, NY (July 31, 2003) – October 11, 2003. Mark that date down.
ThatÂ’s when the Syracuse Crunch opens its 10th anniversary American Hockey League season against the Hershey Bears. It is the eighth time in the CrunchÂ’s ten-year history that they will open at home.
The 40-game home schedule includes 33 weekend dates with Saturday being the busiest home night for the Crunch with 18 games. Friday follows in order of frequency with 14 games. The Crunch will play six games on Wednesday and one on each Monday and Sunday.
The Crunch will play 44 games against their North Division foes (Rochester 12, Cleveland 8, St. JohnÂ’s 8, Hamilton 6, Toronto 6 and Manitoba 4). Syracuse also has ten contests against the West Division (Chicago 2, Cincinnati 2, Houston 2, Milwaukee 2 and San Antonio 2). In addition the Crunch will face-off against the East Division 26 times (Binghamton 8, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 8, Albany 4, Hershey 4 and Philadelphia 2). Syracuse will not face any team in the Atlantic Division during the regular season.
The Crunch play 9 games in October, 11 in November, 10 in December, 14 in January, 15 in February, 14 in March and 7 in April. The Crunch will play 8 home games in January and March, the most of any month.
The longest home stand of the season is five games (December 12 – 26). The Crunch’s longest road trip of the season is six games (February 28 – March 10). The Crunch will play three games in three nights nine times this season, the same as last season.
Notable games include the defending Calder Cup Champion Houston Aeros making their first-ever War Memorial appearance on November 28. Other teams making their first-ever trip into Syracuse include, Toronto (December 6), Manitoba (December 12) and San Antonio (February 16).
