Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced seven separate transactions: (1) defenseman, Tyler Hanchuck, recalled to Manchester; (2) right wing, Greg Hogeboom, re-assigned from Manchester; (3) goaltender, Barry Brust, re-assigned from Manchester; (4) right wing, John Morlang, returned from Hershey Bears (AHL); (4) defenseman, Jeff State, returned from Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL); (6) right wing, Doug Christiansen, activated off the injured reserve; and (7) emergency back-up goaltender, Adam Horvath, released.

This marks the first call up this season for Hanchuck, who has played all eleven games with the Royals this season and has picked up 21 penalty minutes in those games. Hogeboom had been re-called to Manchester last Friday and played in the Monarchs 3-2 shoot out loss to the Lowell Lock Monsters on Saturday. Hogeboom has played in ten games for the Royals and has scored three goals and added ten assists. For Brust, this is his first re-assignment to the Royals this season. Brust has played six games with the Monarchs, compiling a record of 4-1-1 with a 2.55 goals against average and a .923 save percentage. Brust made 21 saves on 23 shots in the Monarchs' 3-2 shootout loss to Lowell on Sunday (November 20). Last season, Brust played in forty-two games for the Royals and established team records for total wins in a single season (27), goals against average (1.96), and shutouts (4). Brust, a third round pick of the Minnesota Wild in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, was chosen as the Western Hockey League's Goaltender of the Year in 2002. In that season, Brust picked up 28 wins for the Spokane Chiefs and was also selected as a WHL First Team All-Star.

Morlang was loaned to the Hershey Bears on Saturday and played in the Bears 7-2 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms that night. In that game, Morlang had three shots on goal and fought Josh Gratton of Philadelphia. This marked Morlang's second stint in the AHL this season. Morlang had been loaned to the Lowell Lock Monsters on Sunday, November 13, and played in two games with Lowell prior to being returned to the Royals in time for last Friday's game against Dayton, in which Morlang scored an empty net goal. Over the course of this season, Morlang has scored four goals and added two assists in ten games with the Royals. State returns to the Royals after playing in three games for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers this week. In those games, State assisted on one of the Sound Tigers' goals in the team's 5-2 loss to the Wilkes-Barre Penguins on Sunday. He also was involved in two fights during this three game stint in the AHL. State has played in nine games for the Royals and picked up 47 penalty minutes in those games. Doug Christiansen returns to the Royals line-up after missing two games while he was on the injured reserve. In nine games this year, Christiansen has scored six goals and assisted on another for the Royals.

The Royals return to action tonight against the defending Kelly Cup champion Trenton Titans at the Sovereign Center (7:00 p.m.) The first 1500 fans in attendance get a Royals car flag courtesy of Coors Light and All-Star Distributing.
