Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that forward Shay Stephenson was selected as the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for the fifth week of the season (11/14 - 11/20/05). Stephenson racked up four goals and an assist in two games this past week, playing at a +3 in the Royals' two wins.

All four of Stephenson's goals came in the Royals' 6-1 win over the South Carolina Stingrays when the Royals lineup was reduced to just 13 skaters. That night the 6'4"/200 lb. rookie from Outlook, Saskatchewan, became the first Royal in team history to score four goals in a single game. His goals included the game's first goal and the game winner, and one of them was scored while the team was on the power play. A 7th round pick of the Carolina Hurricanes in 2003, Stephenson has scored six goals and added two assists through eleven games with the Royals this year. Stephenson, who was a member of the 2001 Red Deer Rebel Memorial Cup championship team, is tied with the team lead in +/-, playing at a +7. Stephenson becomes the second Royal player this season to be selected as the In Glas Co Player of the Week. His linemate, Mike Pandolfo, won the award for the season's first week. On behalf of Shay Stephenson, a case of pucks will be donated to a Reading area youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier for the ECHL. In Glas Co has donated over 12,500 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities since it began sponsoring the award in 2000-01. In Glas Co also donated all of the limited-edition pucks that were used during the opening weekend and auctioned off for hurricane relief.

The Royals return to action tonight against the defending Kelly Cup champion Trenton Titans at the Sovereign Center (7:00 p.m.) The first 1500 fans in attendance get a Royals car flag courtesy of Coors Light and All-Star Distributing.
