Bakersfield Condors News Release

North Charleston, SC The South Carolina Stingrays Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons announced today that the team has traded veteran forward Joel Irving to the Bakersfield Condors in exchange for goaltender Davis Parley. Parley, a third year professional will join the Stingrays in time for their game Friday night with the Gwinnett Gladiators.

Irving, a Montreal Canadiens draft pick in 1994, played three seasons with the Stingrays from 2000-03. The native of Lumsden, Saskatchewan had at least 40 points in each of his first three seasons in South Carolina. This season, Irving managed one goal and four assists for five points in ten games.

Parley spent two seasons with the Texas Wildcatters of the ECHL after a successful career in the Western Hockey League. Last season with the Wildcatters, Parley had a record of 5-13-7 and a GAA of 3.50. After being traded to Bakersfield, the native of Surry, BC had a record of 3-2-1 with a GAA of 2.87. This season with the Condors, Parley has a record of 2-3-1.

The Stingrays are currently on a nine game winless streak (0-6-3). The team has just returned from a six game road trip on which they went 0-4-2.

"We knew that we had to make some changes coming out of last weeks games," commented Fitzsimmons. "We feel Davis will be a consistent performer for us in goal. He had a tremendous Junior career and should have success under the right system. It is tough to let a player like Joel go, but we feel that he will have a better opportunity with the Condors. Hopefully this trade will help both teams."

Parley was drafted by the Florida Panthers in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He spent four seasons with the Kamloops Blazers and had a record of 20-11-1 in his final year with a GAA of 2.77.

The Stingrays will play four out of their next five games at home, beginning on Wednesday night against the Charlotte Checkers. The Rays will also play at home on Friday night against Gwinnett and Sunday afternoon at 3:00 against Florida. A variety of season ticket and group ticket packages are still available.
