
Gwinnett hands Charlotte first loss at home, 5-1

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Gwinnett Gladiators built on an early-second period lead en route to a 5-1 victory over the Charlotte Checkers Tuesday night at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena in front of 3,976 fans. Guillaume Desbiens' goal at the 3:55 mark of the second period proved to be the game winner as the Checkers were held scoreless in the second and third frames.
Gwinnett's Chris Durno earned the number one star of the game as his two third-period goals closed the door on any comeback attempt by the Checkers. Gwinnett goalie Sean Fields grabbed the number two star of the game as he stopped 31-of-32 shots from the Checkers.
Charlotte's Dusty Jamieson earned the number three star of the game scoring the only goal for the Checkers to tie the game at 1-1 at the 13:39 mark of the first period.
Gwinnett received goals from Ryan Fultz (first goal of the game) and Derek Nesbitt to round out their scoring.
Checkers goalie Chris Holt stopped 35-of-40 shots in his first action with the team.
Gwinnett scored on 1-of-8 power play attempts while Charlotte squandered six chances.
The Checkers are back in action tomorrow night as they travel to Charleston, S.C. to face the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:00. The Checkers will be back at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena at 7:00 pm on Friday, November 25th as they will host the Florida Everblades.
