Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (9-2-1=19) jumped into first place in the North Division of the ECHL's American Conference for the first time this season with a 5-0 victory over the defending Kelly Cup champion, Trenton Titans. Goaltender Cody Rudkowsky stopped all nineteen shots he faced to pick up the first shutout of the season for Reading, extend the team's win streak to five games, and preserve the team's perfect record at home (6-0-0).

The Royals struck early when Greg Hogeboom came from behind the Trenton net and executed a hard wrap on goaltender, Rejean Beauchemin at the two minute mark of the first period. With that goal, Hogeboom became the eighth different player-in nine wins this season for the Royals-to score a game winning goal. In the two prior games this season against the Titans, the Royals had failed to score a power play goal in 18 chances; but Reading broke that streak with the team's first power play chance of the night, when Mike Pandolfo finished on a brilliant back-door feed from Hogeboom at the 8:38 mark of the first period. Thirty-nine seconds later, Pandolfo worked a picture perfect give-and-go two-on-one break with Mike Kompon to give the Royals a 3-0 lead. For Pandolfo, that play resulted in his team leading ninth goal of the season and extended his personal goal scoring streak to four games. The Royals added a late second period goal from Malcolm MacMillan and an early third period goal from Kompon, who now has 13 points in his last eight games with the Royals; but the damage was already done, as the Royals focused their team concentration on preserving the Rudkowsky shutout and the team's ninth win of the season.

The Royals complete the team's six game home stand this Friday night against the Toledo Storm (7:00 pm). On that night, the Royals will give away a "This Day In Royals History" CD courtesy of Blue Ball Bank.
