Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu has been named the Reebok Hockey ECHL Saver of the Week for the second time this season after beating Las Vegas twice.
Beckford-Tseu also earned the award for the week of October 24-30 and later captured ECHL Goaltender of the Month honors as well. Last week, he out-dueled Wranglers goalie Marc Magliarditti with 27 saves in a 2-1 victory Wednesday, then came within two minutes of posting his second shutout of the year, stopping 20 of 21 shots in an eventual 3-1 win over Vegas Saturday. Currently under contract to Alaska's NHL affiliate in St. Louis, Beckford-Tseu finished the week with a .959 save percentage and remained unbeaten in an Aces sweater at 5-0-1.
The 21-year-old Toronto native leads the ECHL with a 1.49 goals against average, and his .945 save percentage also tops all goaltenders with at least four starts in the league this season. Beckford-Tseu earned a brief call-up to Alaska's AHL affiliate in Peoria two weeks ago, stopping all three shots he faced in six minutes of relief work for the Rivermen.
The Aces almost swept the weekly ECHL awards, with Chris Minard coming within an eyelash of Player of the Week honors after scoring five goals and finishing +3 in Alaska's three-game sweep of Las Vegas. Last year's ECHL goal-scoring champion, who turned 24 last Friday, scored twice in the last two games of the series and now his six goals in his last four games and seven in his last six, with an assist in the only game during that streak when he did not score. With his recent surge, Minard's nine goals place him within one of the league leader, Utah's Matt Craig.
Craig and the Grizzlies, who currently are tied with Alaska for second place in the West Division, invade Anchorage a week from today when the Aces (9-3-2) return to action at Sullivan Arena November 29 and 30 at 7:15 p.m. ADT. All Alaska Aces games, home and away, are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com. In addition, all home games and selected road contests will be available on a pay-per-view basis on the internet, courtesy of B2 Networks.
