Royals' Stephenson Named In Glas Co ECHL Player Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Shay Stephenson of the Reading Royals is the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for November 14-20.

Under contract to the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League, the 22-year-old had five points (4g-1a) and a plus-minus rating of +3 as Reading went 2-0-0 to within a point of North Division leader Wheeling. In a 6-3 win over division rival Dayton on November 18, Stephenson had an assist and a plus-minus rating of +1. On November 19, he scored a team record four goals, including a power-play goal and the game-winning goal, as the Royals beat South Carolina 6-1 to improve to 5-0-0 at home.

Selected in the ninth round (278th overall) by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft and again in the seventh round (178th overall) by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2003 Entry Draft, the 6-foot-4 and 200-pound rookie left wing is tied for second on the team in goals (6) and tied for the lead in plus-minus rating (+7).

Prior to turning professional, the Outlook, Saskatchewan native played four years with Red Deer of the Western Hockey League where he had 86 points (38g-48a) in 230 games and 26 points (11g-15a) in 87 post season games, helping the Rebels win the Memorial Cup in 2000-01.

On behalf of Shay Stephenson, a case of pucks will be donated to a Reading area youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier for the ECHL.

In Glas Co has donated over 12,500 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities since it began sponsoring the award in 2000-01. In Glas Co also donated all of the limited-edition pucks that were used during the opening weekend and auctioned off for hurricane relief.
