Rossburn Rifle Lifts BWK to Win over Tigers
December 8, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB - It certainly wasn't pretty, but the Brandon Wheat Kings will take the two points after a 6-4 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Tuesday night.
Chd Nychuk recorded a career high four assists, while Ridly Greig (2G-1A), Nolan Ritchie (1G-2A), Nate Danielson (1G-1A) and Riley Ginnell (2) all registered multi-point nights en route to the Wheat Kings third consecutive victory.
"We were pretty sloppy tonight," said Head Coach Don MacGillivray. "We had lots of turnovers ,cheated offensively and were not good defensively at times. It's a bittersweet win for me in terms of how we played. But we will take the win, not every one is going to be pretty."
Nychuk's four assists comes on the heels of a two point night on Saturday in Medicine Hat. Despite the offensive output, the Rossburn, MB native wasn't thrilled about the effort.
"We weren't as clean tonight as we wanted to be," Nychuk told the Bounce 96.1 post-game show. "Me and Vinny were jumping in on the offense, but we were also on the ice for a couple of goals against and we have to tighten that up. The consistency needs to pick up here as a team. When we are playing well we are a good team and we know that. We just have to put it all together."
Brandon fired 37 shots on goal but were stymied on several occasions by Tigers netminder Bennett Langkow. The 18-year-old kicked aside 31 shots and was named the games third star.
The win is Brandon's third of this difficult stretch of the WHL schedule. Tonight was game five of eight over the course of twelve days. For Nychuk, the schedule is not something he is willing to use as an excuse for a poor outing.
"When it comes to playoffs you have to play every other night," he said. "I don't think we're thinking about the schedule right now. Being on the road with the boys is one of the best parts of junior hockey and its been a fun stretch. We just have to finish the week strong."
The Wheat Kings will head to Moose Jaw Wednesday night to take on the Warriors. Game time 7:00 and you can catch all the action on Bounce 96.1 and the iHeartRadio app with Branden Crowe. The Drummonds Farm Services pre-game show begins at 6:45.
