Vitelli Named Raiders Captain, Allan Named an Alternate

Prince Albert Raiders News Release

Prince Albert, Sask. - The Prince Albert Raiders are proud to announce that Reece Vitelli has been named the 45th captain in franchise history.

Vitelli, a product of Winnipeg, Man., is tied for the team with eight goals this season to go along with 14 points in 22 games. He was named to the leadership group as an alternate captain earlier this season.

"It's a huge honour to be named the Raiders captain this year with the history behind the Raiders organization and how long they've been part of the WHL," Vitelli said. "It's truly an honour."

Last year, Vitelli was one of six players to wear an alternate's "A" during the season in the Hub Centre. He skated in all 24 games in the Hub, scoring seven goals and adding 15 assists. His play earned him an invitation to the Arizona Coyotes' development camp in September before heading to the team's main camp.

Selected in the fourth round of the 2016 WHL Prospects Draft by the Everett Silvertips, Vitelli was acquired by the Raiders in October of 2019.

"Being an older a guy and being in a lot of different experiences in the WHL, I can help the younger guys and lead the way on and off the ice with my play, hard work and dedication."

Joining the leadership group will be Chicago Blackhawks prospect Nolan Allan as an alternate captain.

"It's an honour to join these guys who have already worn letters on our team and follow in their footsteps," Allan said. "It was a huge learning experience watching them lead."

Allan has equalled or set career highs in goals (two), assists (10), points (12), and shots on goal (49) in 20 games this season.

The Davidson, Sask. product was selected in the first round of the 2021 NHL Draft by the Blackhawks and signed his entry-level contract with the club during team's training camp.

In his WHL career, the third-overall pick in the 2018 WHL Prospects Draft has five goals and 18 assists with 60 penalty minutes in 101 career games.

"We are big believers that a team needs a captain," said Raiders Head Coach Marc Habscheid. "Joining our team during the shortened season, Reece knows about our culture and what it means to be a Raider. He's vocal with our group and leads by example.

"Remy was in close consideration and is a large part of our leadership group. He's a quiet leader, and he cares about everyone in that room and cares about the Raider way.

"Nolan has made great strides this season. He's quiet, but has a great presence. This is another stage in his development.

"Even though certain players have been identified with letters, there are plenty of leaders in our group."

The Raiders are back in action on Friday night when they take on the Pats in Regina at the Brandt Centre. Game time is 7 p.m. Catch the game at The Rock And Iron Club House, Original Joe's, or watch on WHL Live on CHL TV.

The next Raiders' home game is on Saturday night when the Calgary Hitmen visit the Art Hauser Centre on Toque And Mitt Toss Night Presented By Canadian Tire. Puck drop is 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Raiders Office and at SaskTix.ca.
