Winnipeg Ice News Release

Gage Alexander made 34 saves, however the Edmonton Oil Kings capitalized on the power play with three goals in a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg ICE.

"Yeah [Gage] was outstanding," said Head Coach James Patrick. "On the four minute power play, he made probably three or four highlight saves that were almost sure goals. From the bench you're thinking 'How are they going to miss?' but he came up with the saves and gave us a chance right to the end."

Simon Kubicek, Josh Williams and Kaiden Guhle did the goal scoring as Edmonton finished the night 3/4 on the man advantage.

Nolan Orzeck and Skyler Bruce replied for the ICE (22-3-1), who remain four points ahead of the Oil Kings (19-4-2-1) for first place overall in the WHL standings.

Winnipeg went 0/4 on the power play. "I thought it was a tight checking game, 5 on 5 was pretty even the whole way through but it came down to special teams. They got the upper hand on us tonight in that one area of the game" said Orzeck. "We had our looks, but it came down to the bounces. We get a couple better bounces then we have a different game."

Sebastian Cossa made 25 saves in goal for the Oil Kings, who continue a Manitoba road trip into Brandon Friday.

The ICE host Edmonton again Saturday night, 7:00 at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena.
