Regina Pats News Release
Regina, Sask. - On Wednesday, the Regina Pats made two additions to their organization, making a pair of selections in the second annual U.S. Priority Draft. With their first pick, 12th overall, Regina selected 2006-born forward Carson McGinley. With their second pick, 33rd overall, the Pats selected 2006-born goaltender Justin Bayers.
McGinley, 15, has totaled seven points (3G-4A) in eight games this season with the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes 15U AAA program. The 5-foot-8, 134 lb. forward is tied for first on his team in assists and second in points. The Phoenix, AZ, native played for the Arizona Bobcats 14U AAA program last year, scoring 16 points (8G-8A) in 4 games.
"Carson is an extremely hard working physical winger with a great scoring touch, who is unbelievable on the power play," said Regina Pats California Scout Tommy Tartaglione. "He's going to be someone who is going to contribute with his scoring ability and physicality."
Bayers, 15, is 6-1-0 with a 2.64 goals against average and a .897 save percentage with the Mount St. Charles Academy 15U AAA program this season. The 5-foot-10, 160 lb. goaltender played for the Los Angeles Jr. Kings 14U AAA program last year, where the Westlake Village, CA, native posted a 1.96 goals-against average and .909 save percentage in 30 appearances.
"He's a calm goalie in the net who uses his size really well," Tartaglione said of Bayers. "He's still growing and he's extremely competitive and extremely athletic."
The Pats would like to congratulate both Carson and Justin on getting drafted, and would like to give them a warm welcome to the Pats organization and the community of Regina.
