Hurricanes Select Lackas, Azelton in WHL US Priority Draft

LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced the selections of forward Jackson Lackas and defenseman Tristen Azelton in the 2022 Western Hockey League US Priority Draft.
Lackas, 14, was selected with the second overall pick in the draft. The Las Vegas, Nevada product currently plays for the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes 15U AAA team where he has totaled eight points (7g-1a) along with two penalty minutes. Last season in limited action, the 5 '7, 150-pound left-shot forward had nine points (5g-4a) along with two penalty minutes in four games with the Arizona Bobcats 14U AAA; he added 11 points (6g-5a) in four playoff games.
"We like this player and think he's got a strong upside," said Hurricanes head scout Rob MacLachlan. "He can skate, he can score and he 's a good two-way player. He's not afraid to go to the dirty and tough areas to score goals."
Azelton, 15, was taken in the second round (43rd overall) in the draft. The Gilbert, Arizona product has totaled nine points (5g-4a) along with six penalty minutes with the Arizona Bobcats 16U AA team in the 16U League. The 5 '10, 185-pound rearguard has also collected 10 points (2g-8a) with 26 penalty minutes with the Bobcats in the NAPHL 16U league.
"Azelton is a good skating, offensive defenseman that we really like. We were really happy to get him with the 43rd overall pick, " said MacLachlan.
The 2022 WHL Prospects Draft is scheduled for Thursday, December 9th at 10:00am. The Hurricanes hold two first round picks at 10th and 17th overall.
