Winnipeg Ice News Release
Tonight is game six of seven consecutive games for the ICE at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena. The ICE are 3-1-1 earning seven out of a possible 10 points so far. Following tonight's game, Winnipeg hosts the Oil Kings Saturday night at 7:00.
This is the longest homestand of the season for the ICE.
The ICE have outscored the opposition 88-32 at home.
Monday, the Winnipeg ICE acquired 19 year old forward Jack Finley and a seventh round pick in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft from the Spokane Chiefs in exchange for forwards Chase Bertholet, James Form and a second round pick in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.
Finley, who was named Captain of the Chiefs this season, has 16 points (eight goals and eight assists) in 21 games. In 152 WHL games over the past four seasons, the Kelowna, B.C. product has 93 points (36 goals and 57 assists), is +22 and 124 penalty minutes.
The 6'6", 223 pound forward is one of 21 forwards named to the roster of Canada's National Junior Team selection camp. He represented our country at the 2018-2019 Under 17 World Hockey Championship registering two assists in five games.
Finley was selected in the first round, sixth overall by Spokane in the 2017 WHL Prospects Draft.
The Tampa Bay Lightning selected Finley in the second round, 57th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft. He signed a three year entry level contract with the Lightning December 12, 2020 and played one NHL preseason game September 28th in Carolina.

Winnipeg and Edmonton will meet four times during the WHL regular season (Oct 29 @ Edm 3-1 L / Tonight @ Wpg / Saturday @ Wpg / Feb 21 @ Edm).
The ICE have lost their last 10 straight and 13 of 14 games vs the Oil Kings.

OH CANADA
ICE forward Zach Benson took part in the Capital City Challenge November 26th to December 1st in Ottawa winning a Gold medal. Benson was one of 66 players selected by Hockey Canada to wear the Maple Leaf at the four team tournament featuring three men's under 17 teams and Canada's National Women's Team. In the Gold Medal game, Benson scored the tying goal for Team Black with 0.4 seconds remaining in regulation time to force overtime. They beat Team Red 5-4. Benson led all players in the event with seven goals and 12 points.
WORLD JUNIOR HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP
ICE defensemen Carson Lambos (Canada) and Maximilian Streule (Switzerland) have been invited to their respective countries selection camp for the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championship December 26 - January 5 in Edmonton and Red Deer.

WHL HISTORY
With their 11th win of the season October 27th in Calgary, Winnipeg won the most consecutive games to open a WHL season since 2006 eclipsing the previous mark of 10 games set by the 2014-15 Kelowna Rockets and 2006-07 Vancouver Giants.
A 3-1 loss in Edmonton October 29th saw the ICE fall one game short of tying for the longest winning streak in WHL history to start a season. The 1988-89 Swift Current Broncos hold the record of 12 straight wins before losing in Saskatoon October 30, 1988.
