
Oil Kings Select 11 Prospects at 2021 WHL Prospect Draft

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings made 11 selections during the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft on Thursday.
Today's draft, originally scheduled for May of this year, was the culmination of plenty of hard work, dedication and patience from the players selected, and the scouting staffs of the clubs that took them.
The Oil Kings wrapped up the draft with 11 new players to add to their prospect pool; six forwards, four defencemen and one goaltender.
FIRST ROUND - Gavin Hodnett
With the 19th overall selection, the Oil Kings drafted forward Gavin Hodnett.
The 5-foot-8, 135-pound Winnipeg, MB native has registered 30 points (10G, 20A) and four penalty minutes in 20 games with the Winnipeg Rink Hockey Academy U18 program this season.
The Oil Kings next two selections came in the fourth round.
FOURTH ROUND - Ethan Mackenzie and Teo Pisani
With the 82nd overall pick, the Oil Kings took defenceman Ethan Mackenzie.
The 5-foot-8, 145-pound West Kelowna, BC product has appeared in 14 games this season with the Kelowna Rink Hockey Academy U16 team, notching eight assists and six penalty minutes, while also picking up three assists and two penalty minutes in four games with the Kelowna Rink Hockey Academy U18 team.
This pick was acquired by the Oil Kings on September 16, 2019 from the Medicine Hat Tigers in exchange for defenceman Parker Gavlas.
With the final pick of the fourth round, 89th overall, the Oil Kings selected forward Teo Pisani.
The 5-foot-7, 130-pound St. Albert, AB native is currently playing with the St. Albert Raiders U18 AAA team. In 19 games this season he has registered 17 points (6G, 11A) and two penalty minutes.
He is the son of Oil Kings Development Coach and former Edmonton Oilers forward Fernando Pisani.
FIFTH ROUND - Rhys Pederson
The Oil Kings had the first pick of the fifth round, 90th overall, and took defenceman Rhys Pederson.
The 6-foot-1, 155-pound Stettler, AB product plays with the Northern Alberta Xtreme U16 team and has recorded 13 points (2G, 11A) and six penalty minutes in 18 games this year, while also adding two points (1G, 1A) in one game with the Northern Alberta Xtreme U18 team.
This pick was acquired by the Oil Kings on June 13, 2019 from the Victoria Royals in exchange for defenceman Will Warm.
SIXTH ROUND - Rhett Ewen
The Oil Kings next selection came in the sixth round, 133rd overall, where they elected to grab forward Rhett Ewen.
The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Saskatoon, SK native plays with the Saskatoon Riverkings U18 AA program. In 17 games this year, he has 17 points (11G, 6A) and 30 penalty minutes.
SEVENTH ROUND - Miles Burgin
The Oil Kings used their 155th overall selection to take forward Miles Burgin.
The 5-foot-7, 130-pound Surrey, BC product has appeared in 19 games with the Valley West Giants U18 AAA team this season, tallying 14 points (6G, 8A) and 12 penalty minutes.
EIGHTH ROUND - Liam Hoff and Jake Pilon
The Oil Kings made two picks back-to-back in the eighth round, grabbing another defenceman, as well as their first goaltender of the draft.
With the 176th overall selection, the Oil Kings took defenceman Liam Hoff.
The 5-foot-10, 146-pound North Vancouver, BC product plays with the Vancouver NW Hawks U17 AAA team. In 16 games this year, he has amassed 25 points (5G, 20A) and six penalty minutes.
This pick was acquired by the Oil Kings on August 20, 2020 from the Everett Silvertips in exchange for forward Michael Abgrall.
With the 177th overall selection, the Oil Kings nabbed goaltender Jake Pilon.
The 5-foot-11, 141-pound Calgary, Alberta native plays with the Calgary Flames U16 AAA team. This year he has put together a record of 7-1-0 with a 2.13 goals-against average and .924 save percentage.
NINTH ROUND - Michael Sullivan
With the 199th overall selection, the Oil Kings drafted defenceman Michael Sullivan.
The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Winnipeg, MB product plays with the Winnipeg Rink Hockey Academy U16 program. In 15 games this year, he has one assist and 42 penalty minutes.
TENTH ROUND - Treycen Wuttunee
With the 221st overall selection, the Oil Kings drafted forward Treycen Wuttunee.
The 5-foot-8, 135-pound Battleford, SK product plays with the Battlefords Stars U18 AAA team. In 24 games this season, he has put up 14 points (5G, 9A) and six penalty minutes.
ELEVENTH ROUND - Bowman Klippenstein
With the 243rd overall selection, the Oil Kings drafted forward Bowman Klippenstein.
The 5-foot-11, 140-pound Coaldale, AB native currently plays with the Notre Dame Hounds U16 team. In 16 games this season, he has registered five points (3G, 2A) and 38 penalty minutes.
He is the son of Wade Klippenstein who currently serves as the Colorado Avalanche's Director of Amateur Scouting and previously worked in the WHL with the Saskatoon Blades, Prince Albert Raiders, Moose Jaw Warriors, Prince George Cougars and Brandon Wheat Kings in various management, scouting and coaching roles.
