Tri-City Americans News Release

KENNEWICK, WASH. - The Tri-City Americans selected forward Jordan Gavin with the second overall pick today in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft. The Americans made 8 total selections in the draft including three forwards, three defensemen, and two goalies.

Gavin is the only player to ever be selected second overall by the Americans. The five-foot-11 and 143-pound forward is currently playing with Delta Hockey Academy U17 Prep. He has recorded 58 points (24G, 34A) through 14 games played this season.

"There's a lot of talented players in this draft so it's an honor to be selected by such a great organization," said Gavin. "Playing in the WHL is something I've always wanted to do and be part of. I can't wait to get started."

The 15-year-old native of Surrey, B.C. was teammates with 2020 Tri-City draft picks Lukas Dragicevic, Deagan McMillan, and Carter Savage during the 2019-20 season for Delta Hockey Academy.

"It will be great to play with them again," said Gavin. "We already have chemistry, and we are already familiar with how each other plays."

The Americans made a trade to swap picks with the Seattle Thunderbirds during the second round. Tri-City sent the 44th and 77th overall selections to Seattle in exchange for 31st overall. The Americans used the pick to select another forward from Delta Hockey Academy U17 Prep, Gavin Garland.

Garland, six-foot and 168-pounds, lives in Tsawwassen, B.C. but was born in Clearwater, Florida. He has played 13 games this season with Delta, scoring eight goals and adding 18 assists.

Tri-City used their remaining picks to select defenseman Merrek Arpin (round 3, pick 49), goaltender Eric Kahl (round 5, pick 93), defenseman Cole Bilous (round 7, pick 137), defenseman Zakhar Meshcheriakov (round 8, pick 159), forward Nicholas Anisimovicz, and finally goaltender Ben Polhill (round 10, pick 203).

"A key component of each draft is creating depth and balance to your list," said Americans Assistant General Manager and Head Scout Roy Stasiuk. "With the two U.S. players chosen yesterday, coupled with today's eight selections, we've addressed forward, defence and goaltending positions. Each player chosen has a high level of skill and all bring an element of high compete and character to our organization. This group will complement our 2004 and 2005 depth and quickly put us back on track as one of the more exciting teams in the WHL."

Players eligible for the 2021 WHL Bantam Draft were 2006-born players residing in Alberta, B.C., Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
