Regina, Sask. - Regina Pats 2003-born defenceman Stanislav Svozil has been named to Team Czech Republic for the upcoming 2022 IIHF World Junior Championships, taking place in Edmonton and Red Deer.

This will be Svozil's second World Junior appearance, after he represented his country at last year's tournament, recording one point in five games.

"I'm excited so much because playing for your country is the best feeling," Svozil said. "I'm excited for it and I hope we can get some good results...last year I was [one of] the youngest guys on the team and that was a good experience for me. This year, I will [have] more confidence than last year."

The Columbus Blue Jackets draft pick ranks fourth on the Pats in scoring with 15 points (1G-14A) in 24 games this season. He also ranks third in the Western Hockey League in assists amongst rookies (14) and third amongst rookies in shots on goal (63). Seven of his 14 assists have come on the power play.

The 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship will be held at Rogers Place in Edmonton and the Peavey Mart Centrium in Red Deer from December 26, 2021 to January 5, 2022. The Czech Republic will compete in Group A with Austria, Canada, Finland and Germany. They kick off the tournament against Canada on Boxing Day, the team that eliminated them last year in the quarter-final.
