
Raiders Pick 11 Players in 2021 WHL Prospects Draft

Prince Albert, Sask. - The Prince Albert Raiders selected 11 players in Thursday's 2021 WHL Prospects Draft.
The 2021 draft class was welcomed to the Raider organization through the online event. In total, the Raiders picked six forwards, four defencemen, and one goaltender. By region, the Raiders selected four players from Alberta, three from Saskatchewan, two from British Columbia, one from Manitoba, and one from Yukon.
The Raiders kicked off the draft by picking 2006-born forward Cole Peardon with the 13th overall selection. A product of Outlook, Sask., the 6'0, 174-lb centreman has four goals and 12 assists in 18 games played for the Saskatoon Blazers U18 AAA of the Saskatchewan U18 AAA Hockey League. He also added three goals and three assists in five games at the 2021 WHL Cup for Team Saskatchewan.
With the next pick in the draft, the Raiders chose Kelowna, B.C.'s Ryder Ritchie. A forward listed at 5'9 and 140 lbs, he has a goal and two assists in three games with Rink Hockey Academy (RHA) Kelowna's U18 Prep team this season. Last season, he scored 10 goals and chipped in 18 assists in just five games in 2020-21 with RHA Kelowna's U15 Prep club in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL).
In the second round, the Raiders picked forward Grady Martin 32nd overall. The Oyen, Alta. product listed at 6'3 and 166lbs has five goals and two assists in 20 games with the Lethbridge U18 Hurricanes in the Alberta Elite Hockey League this season.
With their second pick in the second round, the Raiders went back to Kelowna to pick their first defenceman of the draft at 43rd overall - Seth Tansem. Standing at 5'11 and weighing 160 lbs, Tansem has a goal and 17 assists in 13 games while playing alongside Ritchie at RHA Kelowna.
The Raiders made Calgary, Alta.'s Max Heise the 55th overall pick in the draft. Heise, a 6'1, 130-lb right winger, has nine goals and 11 assists in 14 games with the Calgary U16 Flames. He has also played three games with the U18 Flames, picking up an assist in the process.
At the 69th overall pick, the Raiders chose defenceman Landon Cowper from Whitehorse, Y.T. The 5'9, 155-lb blueliner is a teammate of Ritchie and Tansem at RHA Kelowna and has five assists in 13 games with the club.
Forward Evhan Allan was chosen by the Raiders with the 88th overall selection. The Davidson, Sask. product is listed at 6'2 and 165 lbs. In 15 games with Prairie Hockey Academy's U16 prep team, he has a goal and seven assists. Evhan is also the younger brother of current Raider Nolan.
In the sixth round, the Raiders selected forward Ty Gordon from St. Albert, Alta. at 121st overall. The 5'6, 140-lb winger has 14 goals and 10 assists in 11 games played with OHA Edmonton's U16 Prep team. He also has a goal and an assist in two contests with the U18 Prep team.
The Raiders went to Manitoba for their first of two picks in the seventh round, picking Brandon's Owen Wallace 138th overall. The defenceman listed at 5'11 and 187 lbs has a goal and seven assists in 24 games with the Brandon U18 AAA Wheat Kings of the Manitoba U18 Hockey League.
Five picks later, the Raiders chose goaltender Connor Baumbach. The 6'0. 162-lb netminder has a 2.98 goals-against average and a 0.918 save percentage in eight appearances with the Red Deer North Stars Chiefs U16 AAA team.
In the ninth round, the Raiders drafted defenceman Tyrone Sobry with the 187th pick. The 6'2, 170-lb blueliner has three goals and three assists in 18 games with the Saskatoon River Kings of the Saskatchewan AA Hockey League. He also has played in 10 games this year with the Saskatoon Contacts of the SU18AAAHL.
