KENT - The Seattle Thunderbirds made 11 selections in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft today.
In the first round, ninth overall, the T-Birds selected forward Tij Iginla from the Rink Hockey Academy Kelowna U18 team. In the 2021-22 season Iginla has played in 10 games and has six goals and five assists for a total of 11 points. Iginla is the son of NHL Hall of Famer Jarome Iginla, who holds the franchise record for goals and points in a Calgary Flames uniform.
In the second round, 24th overall, the Thunderbirds selected defenseman Hyde Davidson from Northern Alberta Xtreme U16 Prep. In the 2021-22 season Davidson has played in 16 games and has six goals and eight assists for 14 total points.
Also in the second round, 38th overall, the T-Birds selected defenseman Bryce Pickford from Wainwright Polar Kings U18 AA. With the Polar Kings, Pickford has played in 14 games and has 15 goals and six assists for a total of 22 points.
With a third selection in the second round, the Thunderbirds selected forward Simon Lovsin with the 44th overall pick. Lovsin plays with the Saints Pro Hockey Academy U17 team and has 12 games played with 11 goals and 20 assists for a total of 31 points.
In the fourth round, 71st overall, the T-Birds selected defenseman Rylan Bonkowski from the Burnaby Winter Club U18 Prep. In the 2021-2022 season thus far Bonkowski has played in 13 games and has one goal and eight assists for a total of 9 points.
In the fifth round, 96th overall, the Thunderbirds selected goalie Spencer Michnik from Northern Alberta Xtreme U16 Prep. Michnik has played in 10 games and has a goals against average of 1.93. He has a save percentage of .918 and has a record of 6-3-0.
In the sixth round, 120th overall, the Thunderbirds selected forward Diego Johnson from Okanagan HA Black U17 Prep. In the 2021-2022 season thus far, Johnson has a total of 17 games played and eight goals scored with 14 assists for a total of 22 points.
Six picks later the T-Birds selected forward Grayson Niehaus from the Saints Pro Hockey Academy U17 team. In the 2021-22 season thus far, Niehaus has played in 16 games and has 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points.
In the seventh round, 148th overall, the Thunderbirds selected forward Nishaan Parmar from Valley West Giants U17 AAA. Parmar has played in 18 games so far this season and has 15 goals and 16 assists for 31 total points.
In the ninth round, 186th overall, the Thunderbirds selected forward Joshua Polak from Saints Pro Hockey Academy U17. In the 2021-2022 season thus far, Polak has played in 10 games and has 11 goals with seven assists for a total of 18 total points.
Capping off the day, the T-Birds selected forward Koen Senft from the Regina Pat Canadians U18 AAA at 208th overall. So far in the 2021-2022 season Senft has played in 25 games and has four goals and six assists for 10 total points.
