Spokane, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs selected forward Berkly Catton first overall to headline their 2021 WHL Prospects Draft class on Thursday. They had six picks within the first 100 overall, selecting Catton, D William McIsaac (28th), F Luka Shcherbyna (41st), D Nathan Mayes (51st), F Cole Wadsworth (73rd) and F Cameron Parr (96th).

In total, the Chiefs made 11 picks in the draft, including eight forwards, two defensemen and one goalie. British Columbia was well-represented, with six players hailing from the province. Two came from Manitoba, one from Saskatchewan, one from Alberta and one from Idaho.

Players selected in this year's WHL draft are first eligible to join the Chiefs as full-time players during the 2022-23 season. They can be called up as Affiliate Players for limited games this season.

Forward - 5'11" - 150 lbs

Hometown: Saskatoon, SK

Scouting Report: "...dynamic, skilled forward who can play all over the ice in all situations. He has produced offensively at every level he has played, scoring and setting up his teammates well. He also plays a responsible, 200-foot game in all three zones, can kill penalties and play in traffic. We love his character, hockey sense and poise under pressure. He has all the characteristics we look for in a player."

Other Notes: Catton is the third player Spokane has ever chosen at first overall, joining Jared Cowen (2006) and Ty Smith (2015). Catton recently moved back to Saskatoon and will play the remainder of the 2021-22 season with the Saskatoon Contacts U18 (SMAAAHL).

2nd Round (28th Overall)

William McIsaac

Defense - 6'3" - 170 lbs

Hometown: Vancouver, BC

Stats (2021-22): 12 GP, 1 goal, 5 assists, 6 points with St. George's School U18 Prep (CSSHL U18)

Scouting Report: "...big, mature style player who is well-rounded and can play everywhere. He has great defensive sense and can contribute on offense as well with a strong shot. Hard to play against."

2nd Round (41st Overall)

Luka Shcherbyna

Forward - 5'10" - 171 lbs

Hometown: Vancouver, BC

Stats (2021-22): 18 GP, 16 goals, 13 assists, 29 points with St. George's School U17 and U18 Prep (CSSHL) - 14 GP with U17 Prep & 4 GP with U18 Prep

Scouting Report: "...in the top end in the draft in terms of pure speed. Has soft hands and lots of skill. Plays with high energy and motor, great work ethic."

3rd Round (51st Overall)

Nathan Mayes

Defense - 6'3" - 170 lbs

Hometown: Salmon Arm, BC

Stats (2021-22): 14 GP, 4 goals, 11 assists, 14 points with Yale Hockey Academy U17 Prep

Scouting Report: "...a very smooth skater with very good agility, especially at his size. Transitions well and can move the puck. Strong hockey IQ."

4th Round (73rd Overall)

Cole Wadsworth

Forward - 5'8" - 130 lbs

Hometown: Penticton, BC

Scouting Report: "...smaller, highly skilled forward with tremendous puck skills and offensive sense. Pairs his skill with a strong level of 'compete'."

Cameron Parr

Forward - 5'8" - 174 lbs

Will Jamieson

Scouting Report: "...skating and skill are his biggest strengths. The combination of those two allow him to create opportunities."

Cohen "Coco" Armstrong

Forward - 5'11" - 165 lbs

Hometown: West Vancouver, BC

Stats (2021-22): 17 GP, 15 goals, 7 assists, 21 points with Shawnigan Lake School U17 & U18 Preps (14 games with U17)

Scouting Report: "...200-foot, hard-working player with a high IQ and motor. He's a good citizen as well, meets all the traits we look for. Scored almost 25% of his team's goals so far this season."

9th Round (183rd Overall)

Ryan Tamelin

Goalie - 6'6" - 172 lbs

Hometown: Invermere, BC

Scouting Report: "...from the same program as (current Chiefs goalies) Mason Beaupit and Manny Panghli. Obviously a big frame... you can't teach size. Our goalie consultants (Lucas Gore and Jesse Plewis) work closely with him."

Tyler Fornier

Forward - 5'11" - 150 lbs

Hometown: Winnipeg, MB

Scouting Report: "...Competes hard for pucks and is tenacious on the forecheck. Plays an aggressive style with high intensity at all times."

Corwith Simmers

Forward - 5'8" - 150 lbs

Hometown: Sun Valley, ID

Scouting Report: "...plays the game with pace and has good vision. Always has his head up looking to create a chance or set up a teammate. Doesn't shy away from physical play."
