Moose Jaw, SK - The Brandon Wheat Kings ran out of steam in a 2-1 loss in Moose Jaw on Wednesday night.

The Wheat Kings put together arguably one of their better efforts of the season, but a 0:38 second lapse in the second period, handed the Warriors the victory.

The Wheat Kings led 1-0 after the first. Ben Thornton notched his 4th of the season and his first since mid-October. The lead would quickly evaporate as the Warriors scored twice on back-to-back shifts to take the lead.

"I thought we played well tonight," said Head Coach Don MacGillivray. "We missed two assignments in the second period and that was the difference in this one. Our first period was one of our best in a long time. I thought we were the better team and deserved better tonight."

The Wheat Kings outshot the Warriors 36-26 but couldn't draw even. Jackson Unger picked up his second career WHL victory, making 35 saves.

At the other end, while he wasn't tested often Ethan Kruger turned in another solid performance, making 24 saves.

After a sloppy victory vs the Medicine Hat Tigers, twenty-four hours earlier the Wheat Kings were looking for a better all-around effort and got in on Wednesday.

"I was pleased with our blueline tonight," added MacGillivray. "We defended harder and just played a better defensive game all around. We also had some good looks on the powerplay and had some grade-A scoring chances but the puck wasn't going for us."

The loss snaps Brandon's winning streak at three games. The Wheat Kings have not won four in a row all season.

Brandon will take Thursday off, a chance to charge the batteries in the midst of an eight-game in twelve-days stretch of hockey. The Edmonton Oil Kings come to town Friday, followed by the Regina Pats on Saturday for the annual Teddy Bear Toss.

Thursday is also a big day for the hockey operations staff, who hold three selections in the first round of the WHL Prospects Draft. The first round of the draft will be streamed live, with the remaining rounds updated pick by pick. Fans can follow along at www.whl.ca/draft.
