Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings have selected Gavin Hodnett from the Rink Hockey Academy in Winnipeg with the 19th overall selection in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft.

The 5-foot-8, 135-pound forward has appeared in 20 games this season with the Rink Hockey Academy U18 program, tallying 30 points (10G, 20A) and four penalty minutes.

Last year, the Winnipeg, Manitoba native was only able to suit up in two games for the Rink Hockey Academy U15 program in Kelowna due to the pandemic but registered 12 assists in the small body of work.

Hodnett represented his province this past October playing for Team Manitoba at the 2021 WHL Cup in Red Deer where he collected two assists in five tournament games.

Oil Kings area scout Keith Wilson announced the selection during the Western Hockey League's live stream of the first round. Wilson is currently in his 50th year as a scout in the WHL.
