ICE Select 11 Players in WHL Prospects Draft

The Winnipeg ICE added to their future today in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft selecting 11 players, including defenseman Jonas Woo, 18th overall in the first round.

The 5'9", 150 pound blue liner, from Winnipeg, has 18 points (3 goals and 15 assists) and 26 penalty minutes in 21 games with the Winnipeg Bruins in the Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League.

Woo was named to the All Star Team at the 2021 WHL Cup where in five games he had two assists and four penalty minutes.

Woo follows in the footsteps of recent ICE first round draft picks Zach Benson (2020 - 14th), Matthew Savoie (2019 - 1st), Conor Geekie (2019 - 2nd), Carson Lambos (2018 - 2nd), Connor McClennon (2017 - 2nd) and Peyton Krebs (2016 - 1st).

In a trade with the Kamloops Blazers, the ICE acquired the 67th overall pick in the third round in exchange for the 115th overall pick in the sixth round and a third round pick in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft.

Winnipeg also moved their two ninth round picks (189 & 195) to the Kelowna Rockets in exchange for an eighth round selection in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.

4th Round - 85th: C/RW Hayden Moore (Winnipeg Bruins AAA U18)

6th round - 116th: D Kyle Marsden (Fort Saskatchewan Rangers U18 AAA)

6th round - 117th: F Oscar Lovsin (Edge Hockey School U16 Prep)

6th Round - 129th: F Carson Reagan (Calgary Buffaloes U18 AAA)

8th Round - 156th: D Chase Bambrick (Lethbridge Hurricanes U18 AAA)

8th Round - 165th: G Noah Stenvig (Delta Hockey Academy U17 Prep)

8th Round - 173rd: D Landon Young (Edmonton MLAC U18 AAA)

10th Round - 217th: F Turner McIntyre (St. Albert Flyers U16 AAA)

11th Round - 239th: D Jagden Taylor (Regina Pat Canadians U18 AAA)

The ICE return to action Saturday night at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena vs the Edmonton Oil Kings on Teddy Bear Toss Night presented by Manitoba Building Trades.

When the ICE score their first goal, fans are invited to throw a teddy bear on the ice to celebrate. Teddy bears must be secured in their original packaging or inside a plastic bag. Teddy bears will be collected and donated to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.
