New England Revolution Acquire Forward Juan Fernando Caicedo

December 20, 2018 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - New England Revolution News Release

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution have acquired forward Juan Fernando Caicedo on loan from Colombian side Independiente Medellín for the 2019 season with a permanent transfer option. Caicedo will be added to the active roster using either Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) or a Designated Player slot pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa. He will occupy an international roster slot.

"We have been closely tracking Juan over the last several months and have had the pleasure of seeing him play live multiple times. Juan brings a wealth of experience in top-flight competition and will add a new dimension to our attack," General Manager Michael Burns said. "We are excited to have Juan in a Revolution uniform this season."

Caicedo, 29, has scored 89 goals in nearly 300 appearances across all competitions through nine professional seasons in the top divisions of Colombia and Argentina. He joins the Revolution from Independiente Medellín, a marquee Colombian Categoría Primera A side, where he scored 42 goals across 150 league appearances. He added three goals in 16 appearances in the Copa Colombia, two goals across 10 appearances in the Copa Sudamericana, and registered four additional appearances in the Copa Libertadores with one additional game played in the Superliga Colombiana.

The forward paced Independiente with 17 league goals in 2015, his most productive campaign as a professional. He also eclipsed the double-digit scoring mark in 2018 with 11 goals for El Rojo Paisa. He helped Independiente claim a 2016 Apertura title, as well as runner-up finishes in the 2015 Apertura campaign, the 2017 Copa Colombia, and the 2017 Superliga Colombiana.

Prior to joining Independiente Medellín, Caicedo spent two years with Argentine top-flight side Club Atlético Independiente from 2013-14. He scored two goals in 14 appearances, including nine starts, for El Rojo. Caicedo completed two loan stints during that time, first making 12 appearances for Colombian Primera A side Independiente Santa Fe from 2013-14. He then joined another Colombian first-division club, Atlético Huila, on loan in 2014, and scored 15 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions.

A native of Carepa, Colombia, Caicedo spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons with Colombian side Deportes Quindío. He scored nine goals in 53 appearances across all competitions for Los Cuyabros. Prior to joining Quindío, Caicedo began his professional career with Colombian side Cortuluá, scoring one goal in eight appearances.
