Portland Timbers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers will play host to Los Angeles FC at Providence Park in the club's 2019 home opener on Saturday, June 1, at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific), it was announced today as MLS unveiled details for each club's home-opening match for its 24th season.
Portland will open the 2019 campaign - its ninth in MLS - with an extended series of road games due to completion work on a multiphase, $75 million stadium-expansion project that will add approximately 4,000 new seats to the east side of Providence Park and a host of amenities and improvements throughout the stadium.
The Timbers will open the season on the road on Saturday, March 2, taking on the Colorado Rapids at Dick's Sporting Goods Park; kickoff is set for 3 p.m. (Pacific). Additionally, the Timbers will serve as the opponent in the home opener for expansion side FC Cincinnati, with Portland set to face the new Eastern Conference club on Sunday, March 17, at 2 p.m. (Pacific) at Nippert Stadium.
The June 1 match marks the fourth time the Timbers open their home schedule against a Western Conference opponent. Since 2011, Portland is 5-0-3 in its MLS home openers.
The complete regular-season schedule, along with the national television schedules for the United States and Canada, will be announced in January.
