Monarchs Game Day Capsule, January 23

January 22, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL) - Manchester Monarchs News Release

MAIN SOURCE OF OFFENSE Manchester's Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman scored his team leading 19th goal of the season in last night's 4-2 loss to the Icemen. LaVallee-Smotherman scored a goal for the 3rd straight game after going four games without a tally. He looks to tie the Monarchs season high tonight with goals in four straight games, a mark he set from Dec. 15 to Dec. 23.

JANUARY BLUES Entering tonight's game, the Monarchs have a 2-4-2-0 record in the month of January, including going winless in three games on the road. The four losses tie the month of November (8-4-1-0) for the most losses the Monarchs have suffered in a month this season. Last season was a similar story, as the Monarchs dropped six games in the month of January, including a four-game losing streak to finish out the month.

THE MIDDLE FRAME Since the turn of the new year, the Monarchs have struggled in the second period, allowing 16 goals in eight games, including a five goal second period for the Reading Royals and a four goal second period against the Wheeling Nailers. Despite scoring 53 goals in the second period, good for third in the league, the Monarchs have allowed 51 goals against in the middle frame, tied for the third most in the league. Last season, the Monarchs outscored their opponents, 115-89, in the middle frame.
