WINGS ROLL PAST MALLARDS

January 22, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL) - Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. - MacKenzie Stewart piled up two goals and two assists and both Justin Taylor- who added one assist- and Jimmy Mullin also scored twice as the Kalamazoo Wings (20-13-3) rolled past the host Quad City Mallards (9-23-3) 8-2 Fri day night .

Taylor tipped in the opening goal at 5:24 of the first period. Ben Wilson stretched the gap to 2-0 from the high slot at 10:19 of the first. Tyler Heinonen swept home the third Kalamazoo goal from the left wing circle at 14:39.

Keegan Kolesar- who would provide both Mallard goals- narrowed the margin to 3-1 by snapping the puck in from the right wing circle with one minute, 13 seconds remaining in the first.

Just when it seemed a closely contested second period would finished without further scoring, Mullin jammed in a power play goal with only four tenths of a second left on the clock. Mullin would strike again one minute, nine seconds into the third period. He pounced on a rebound for his second goal, the Wings' fifth on the night and the first of four in the third period for Kalamazoo.

After Kolesar briefly ignited the home fans by scoring on a fine solo rush at 4:27 of the third, the Wings closed out the evening with a three-goal flurry. Stewart buried wrist shots from the high slot at 12:46 and 15:97 and Taylor capped of the Kalamazoo victory by burying a rebound at 17:02.
