Toronto Marlies News Release

The Toronto Marlies teamed up with D.A.R.E. Halton and the D.A.R.E. program (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) to hold a special school day game against the Rochester Americans on Wednesday morning at Ricoh Coliseum. The Marlies defeated the Americans 3-1, with Darryl Boyce scoring a career-high two goals, including the game-winner to extend the Marlies winning streak to four games. The school day game set a Marlies season-high in attendance with a crowd of 7,367.

D.A.R.E. Halton and the Marlies partnered to educate Halton District School Board and Halton Catholic District School Board students about the dangers of drugs. The team invited students from the Halton Region to motivate them to steer clear of drugs.

Students were able to purchase tickets to the game for $15 through their school, which raised more than $7,000 for the D.A.R.E. program.

During the game, regular commercial advertisements were replaced by public service announcements from Marlies players and Halton Regional Police Service D.A.R.E. officers about the dangers of drugs and drug abuse. Halton Regional Police Chief Gary Crowell was part of a ceremonial pre-game puck drop. School board directors Wayne Joudrie (H.D.S.B.) and Michael Pautler (H.C.D.S.B.) also attended the pre-game ceremony.

The D.A.R.E. program teaches students good decision making skills to help them avoid high-risk behavior to ensure they grow up healthy, safe and secure.

The Toronto Marlies will host Wendel Clark Mini Banner Night at their next home game against the Rochester Americans on Sunday, November 30 at Ricoh Coliseum. The Marlies will give away 5,000 replica mini banners to all fans in attendance similar to the one raised in Clark's honour at Air Canada Centre last Saturday. Sunday afternoon's game will air live on Rogers TV Cable 10 in Toronto and 63 in Scarborough. Fans can listen to all Toronto Marlies regular season games on THE FAN 590 or fan590.com.
