Portland Pirates News Release

Portland, Maine - The Portland Pirates are looking forward to another year of Coats for Kids and Toys for Kids and hope their fans are too. The Pirates are pitching in to help make the holidays brighter for children who might otherwise go without by holding a Toy Drive at their game on Saturday, November 29.

The toy drive will begin when the Civic Center doors open at 5:00 p.m. and last until the end of the game against the Lowell Devils. Fans who bring a new unwrapped toy to donate will receive two tickets to a future Pirates game.

The 10th Annual Coats & Toys for Kids Day is December 5, 12:00 to 7:00 p.m., and December 6, 8:00 a.m.to 2:00 p.m. Statewide live locations are still to be announced; WSCH 6 will post them here as soon as they are finalized. Please drop off collected coats and toys on "either day" of Coats & Toys for Kids Day to be part of the fun and festivities.

Coats can be dropped off at any Hannaford or Shaw's Supermarkets statewide between November 24 and December 31, 2008. Toys must be dropped off no later than December 14 in order for The Salvation Army to get them to families in time for the holidays.

Coats for Kids charitable giving campaign is made possible through a generous partnership of many area organizations and businesses, including The Salvation Army, Pratt-Abbott Cleaners, Hannaford Supermarkets, Shaw's Supermarkets, Pepsi, WLBZ 2, and WCSH 6. Coats & Toys for Kids Day is generously supported by the Maine Oil Dealers Association. Last year, Coats for Kids gathered more than 38,000 coats, helping keep kids all over Maine warm all winter.

If you or a child you know needs a coat, call The Salvation Army at (207)774-6304.

Tickets for Saturday's 7:00 p.m. Pirates game against the Lowell Devils are available by calling (207) 828-4665 x350. Portland Pirates Hockey is fun, exciting and affordable entertainment where fans can watch and get to know tomorrow's NHL stars today.
