Admirals Acquire Forward Grant Potulny from San Antonio
November 26, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Admirals have acquired forward Grant Potulny from the San Antonio Rampage in exchange for future considerations, Admirals General Manager Mike Butters announced today.
"With the void left by the trade of Wyatt Smith last night, we needed an experienced forward with good character in our lineup," said Butters. "Grant Potulny is a great character guy who is a proven scorer in the American Hockey League. He brings a wealth of experience to our lineup, but at the same time does not qualify as a veteran under AHL guidelines."
Potulny, 6-foot-3, 204-pounds, is a sixth-year professional forward from Grand Forks, North Dakota. The 28-year-old began the season with the Duisburg Foxes in the German Elite League, posting one goal in seven games with eight penalty minutes. Potulny then signed an AHL Standard Player's Contract with San Antonio on November 7 and had one assist in seven games with the Rampage to go along with ten penalty minutes.
Last season, Potulny played for both the Hershey Bears (AHL) and the Springfield Falcons (AHL), scoring 28 goals and 46 points in 75 games. He played for the Binghamton Senators (AHL) for four seasons prior to that, scoring 27 goals and 76 points in 178 games. In 260 career American Hockey League games, Potulny has totaled 65 goals and 59 assists for 124 points and 425 penalty minutes.
Potulny played four years of collegiate hockey at the University of Minnesota recording 116 points (68 goals, 48 assists) in 146 career NCAA games. He won NCAA championships with the Golden Gophers in 2001-02 and 2002-03 and captained Minnesota in 2002-03 and 2003-04.
Potulny was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the fifth round (157th overall) of the 2000 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
