Peoria Rivermen News Release
Milwaukee, Wis. (November 26, 2008) - The Milwaukee Admirals turned the Peoria Rivermen's 1-0 lead into a distant memory as they scored the final four goals of the game to win 4-1 on Wednesday night at the Bradley Center.
Milwaukee controlled much of the play early and out-shot the Rivermen 27-16 in the game and 20-11 over the first two periods. Marek Schwarz made 23 saves in his first action since his win on Nov. 15 over San Antonio.
Jeff Cowan scored Peoria's only goal just 4:21 into the first period on the power play to give the Rivermen an early lead. It was Cowan's first goal of the season and first goal in the American Hockey League since the 1999-2000 season when he was with the St. John Flames. Jonas Junland's shot from the point was deflected by Cowan on the way by. After Drew MacIntyre's initial save, Cowan pushed home the rebound as he fell to his knees. Nikolay Lemtyugov earned his team leading 10th assist of the season on the play.
The Rivermen's lead lasted just 3:21 as Hugh Jessiman tied the game at one on the Admirals first power play of the game. With Milwaukee controlling the puck around the perimeter, Cody Franson shot one to the side of the goal and Jessiman was there to redirect it past a sliding Schwarz.
Milwaukee took the lead for good at 12:46 of the first as Stephen Werner snuck a rebound home for his fourth of the season. Triston Grant shot the puck on goal from the left circle and Werner backhanded the rebound home from the slot.
The Admirals struck twice in the opening seven minutes of the second period to expand their lead to 4-1. Tim Ramholt found his shot through a maze in front of Schwarz and just under his glove at 2:20 of the period. It was his first of the year and Cal O'Reilly earned his second of three assists on the night.
Mike Santorelli capped the scoring with a power-play goal at 6:20. Franson set him up on the side of the net and Santorelli darted across the top of the crease before sliding it around Schwarz.
The two teams combined for just 12 shots (7-5 Milwaukee) in an uneventful third period.
The Admirals finished 2-for-5 on the power play while the Rivermen were 1-for-6. MacIntyre made just 15 saves for his eighth win of the season.
With the loss the Rivermen drop to 10-8-1 on the year and into a tie for fourth place with the Admirals. They remain five points behind the Chicago Wolves for first place in the West Division.
The Rivermen will be back at Carver Arena on Friday to welcome the Rockford IceHogs to town. Jennette McCurdy of Nickelodeon's "iCarly" will be on hand to meet fans and sign autographs, presented by CEFCU. Tickets are available at the Peoria Civic Center box office, by calling (309) 673-3200 or online at www.rivermen.net/tickets.
