Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Despite a 3-for-4 night at the dish for Rodolfo Castro, the Indianapolis Indians dropped their second consecutive game to the Iowa Cubs on Thursday night, 6-3. The Indians are now three games below .500 for the first time this season.
With the game tied 2-2 after four, Iowa (36-44) scored four runs to take a convincing lead. Following a leadoff double by Trent Giambrone, Dixon Machado singled on ground ball into center field to score the go-ahead run. A RBI single by Narciso Crook would end the night for starter Mike Burrows (L, 0-2) before two additional runs came across to build a 6-2 lead.
After the I-Cubs struck first with a run in the top of the third, the Indians (38-41) tied the game when Jared Oliva stole third and forced an errant throw by catcher John Hicks. Iowa would add another run in the fourth, before Indy matched on an RBI single by Cal Mitchell. Iowa's four-spot in the fifth inning put the game out of reach for Indy.
The Indians battled late in the ninth with Mason Martin roping an RBI single to cut the deficit to three runs. Indy had the tying run at the dish with runners on the corners and two out, but the rally fell short when Tucupita Marcano lined out to the shortstop to end the game.
RHP Cam Sanders (W, 1-4) threw 5.0 innings and surrendered two runs on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
The Indians and I-Cubs will resume the six-game set at Victory Field on Friday night with a 7:05 first pitch. RHP Miguel Yajure (1-1, 7.47) will toe the rubber for the Indians and RHP Caleb Killian (2-0, 2.82) will counter for the I-Cubs.
