RailRiders Win Over Worcester

WORCESTER, MA -The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (38-43) took down the Worcester Red Sox 5-3 on Thursday night. They have won four of their last five games at Polar Park and have taken a 2-1 series lead.

Worcester ended Krook's scoreless streak at 23.2 innings to open the offensive night, scoring on an RBI double from Johan Mieses in the third inning. The southpaw, coming off a near-perfect game his last time out, tossed six innings of quality baseball, allowing three runs on five hits.

Trailing 1-0, the RailRiders rallied with two outs in their half of the fifth inning. Estevan Florial doubled home a run. Oswald Peraza flared an RBI single to center. Derek Dietrich hit a ground-rule double to left to plate a third run. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre sent six batters to the plate with two outs and opened up a 3-1 advantage.

The WooSox tied the game at three thanks to a solo homer from Jeter Downs and an RBI infield single from Connor Wong in the fifth. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre would regain the advantage in the top of the seventh after Oswald Peraza brought in a pair with a single off Ryan Fitzgerald's glove at third base to give the RailRiders a 5-3 lead. Peraza drove in three runs in the ballgame. It's his seventh multi-RBI game of the season, tying José Peraza for the team lead.

Jimmy Cordero tossed two shutout innings and was matched by Greg Weissert with a perfect ninth. Weissert, pitching his second-straight night retired the Sox in order for his ninth save of the season. Krook (5-6) came away with his fifth victory, now tying Zach Greene for the team lead. WooSox reliever Josh Taylor (0-2) suffered the loss. It's the first time Worcester has lost consecutive games since June 18.

The series continues on Friday night as SWB sends Hayden Wesneski (3-7, 4.11) to the mound for game four. All the action can be heard on the RailRiders Radio Network with first pitch at 6:45 PM.
