Martinez Throws First Quality Start for Omaha in Win over Toledo

Papillion, Neb. - Left-hander Marcelo Martinez shined, throwing 7.1 innings of one-run ball, and striking out four as Omaha moves to 4-0 in the series and 6-3 in the season series.

The Omaha Storm Chasers (41-39) took game four 6-1 over the Toledo Mud Hens (40-40) and now move into solo possession of fourth place in the International League West. Omaha came into the game tied with Toledo.

Both pitchers started the game well, with no runs scored in the first two and a half innings. Omaha opened the scoring in the bottom of the second when center fielder Dairon Blanco hit a homer to put the Chasers on the scoreboard. First baseman Nick Pratto hit a single into the outfield before second baseman Michael Massey hit a double to score Pratto and give Omaha a 2-0 lead after three complete innings.

Left fielder Brewer Hicklen started the bottom of the fourth with an infield sing before catcher Freddy Fermin walked to put a pair on base. Shortstop Iván Castello doubled to score the runners but was got thrown out at third trying to stretch a triple.

With two away in the sixth, Fermin launched his fifth homer of the season to push Omaha's lead to 5-0.

Martinez took a perfect game into the seventh inning but allowed a single in the frame. In all, Martinez would go 7.1 innings and strike out four with no walks.

Castillo started the seventh with a ground rule double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Blanco hit a sacrifice fly to score Castillo from third.

The Mud Hens would hit a homer in the top of the eighth to end the night for Martinez and cut into Omaha's lead, making the score 6-1 heading to the ninth.

The Chasers held off the Mud Hens and took the game 6-1

Omaha faces Toledo Friday for game five. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m. on the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone. Tomorrow's probable for the Storm Chasers is left-hander Drew Parrish (1-2, 6.85) while the Mud Hens are scheduled to send right-hander Elvin Rodriguez to the mound.

Tomorrow is a Fireworks Friday presented by Hy-Vee. It is also the Pre-game Concert Series featuring the Wildwoods.
