July 7, 2022 - International League (IL)
Rochester Red Wings News Release

The Red Wings logged their second win in a row with an impressive 11-2 victory over Lehigh Valley at Coca Cola Park on Thursday evening.

RHP Cory Abbott got the start for Rochester and gave up just one hit and one run through 4 1/3 innings of action.

The Wings struck first with a homer in the second from C Taylor Gushue that brought his hitting streak to six straight games. 1B Riley Adams and 2B Jake Noll scored on an RBI double from RF Nick Banks in the third inning to put the Wings up 2-0. Banks registered four RBI on the day, good for double his previous season high of two.

Rochester kept their foot on the pedal with an RBI double from SS Ildemaro Vargas and an RBI single from DH Joey Meneses that scored two runs and put the Wings up by five. Meneses' RBI was his 50th of the year, good for eighth in the International League.

By the top of the fifth, the IronPigs had gone five deep in their bullpen, but they couldn't slow down the flurry from Rochester. Banks and LF Josh Palacios both logged two-run homers in the fifth as the Wings went up 9-0.

Lehigh Valley scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but they barely cracked into Rochester's lead. The advantage grew when Vargas hit Rochester's fourth home run of the night in the eighth. The four dingers tie the Wings' season high for home runs in a game, with the other two such games coming on April 21 and April 26.

Noll logged an eighth inning sacrifice fly to score Meneses as the Red Wings went up 11-2.

RHP Matt Brill, LHP Matt Cronin, RHP Curtis Taylor, and LHP Luis Avilan all saw the mound and played well, as Wings pitchers gave up just four hits all game.

The last time the Wings won back-to-back games against Lehigh Valley was on April 21 and 22, when they outscored the Pigs by a combined two runs. With tonight's 11-2 victory, the Wings have outscored Lehigh Valley by 13 through their last two wins. (7/6, 7/7)

The Red Wings will have a chance to go up 3-1 in the series on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. in Lehigh Valley.
