WORCESTER, MA - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders downed the Worcester Red Sox 4-2 on Wednesday night. Jake Bauers gave SWB the lead with a two-run double in the seventh inning which proved to be the difference-maker.

Clarke Schmidt started for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, tossing four total innings and retiring his last six batters faced. The only hit he allowed was a solo home run to Christin Stewart, his team-leading 15th of the season for a 1-0 Worcester advantage in the second. Boston Red Sox starter Chris Sale made his fourth rehab appearance, his first with the WooSox. The lefthander struggled with command at times, walking five batters. He also struck out five in 3.2 innings of work. He allowed three hits in the fourth inning, ending his night with a bases-loaded walk of David Freitas to tie the game at one.

The Sox added another run on another solo homer in the fifth from Jeter Downs for a 2-1 lead. It was surrendered by Vinny Nittoli, his fifth allowed this season. That lead lasted into the seventh. Bauers picked up his first RailRiders double, plating a pair to give Scranton/Wilkes-Barre their first advantage of the night. José Peraza would bring in another with a groundout to make it a 4-2 game. Shane Greene jogged out of the bullpen in the seventh inning and tossed a pair of scoreless innings with just one hit allowed. Greg Weissert allowed a double but picked up his eighth save with a four-batter ninth.
