Louisville Bats News Release

A late Louisville (31-49) rally comes up short against St. Paul (40-40) after tallying 12 hits and a pair of solo homeruns from Colin Moran and Juniel Querecuto.

Louisville starter Randy Wynne (2-9, 4.79) was set to square off against Jordan Balazovic (0-3, 9.55) on a rainy Thursday evening in Louisville after a 30-minute weather delay.

Wynne was given an early test in the 1st from the Saints after a home run, a single, and a fielder's choice resulting in a run before battling through the inning.

Colin Moran was able to tie the game at one in the bottom of the 2nd with a loud solo shot off Balazovic, but the Bats weren't done just yet as Juniel Querecuto doubled down the left field line and was followed by a Lorenzo Cedrola line shot to score him from second giving Louisville an early 2-1 lead.

Two batters later in same inning, Alejo Lopez dumped a broken bat single into shallow left field to bring home Cedrola to move the Bats lead to 3-1.

In the top of the fifth St. Paul's Spencer Steer hits a line drive off the wall before TJ Friedl delivers a strike to Alejo Lopez at second cutting down Steer for the 3rd out.

The 6th inning started with a Saints RBI-double that cut into the Bats lead making the score 3-2. That is all the Saints would get after a great back hand play down the line from Querecuto to end the inning.

Wynne finished his dazzling start after giving the Bats 5.2 innings and allowing two runs off six hits while fanning three batters.

St. Paul added two runs in the 8th and one in the 9th to increase their lead to 5-3. Querecuto in the bottom of the 9th sends a solo home run deep into the night to bring the Bats within one. The rally would fall short for the Bats in the remainder of the inning with a 5-4 loss to the Saints.

The Bats will look to bounce back Friday, July 8 against St. Paul to even the series at 2 games each. First pitch is at 7:05 E.T. Left-hander Brandon Williamson (0-1, 9.00) will hope to record his first win of the season going against the righty Mario Sanchez (4-2, 2.78).
