Red Wings soar at Coca-Cola Park

(Allentown, PA) - The Rochester Red Wings (43-38) beat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (43-38) 11-2 on Thursday evening. The IronPigs were held to just two hits, while the Red Wings recorded 14 hits.

Connor Brogdon made the start for Lehigh Valley in a Good Shepherd Rehabilitation appearance. He pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits and striking out two batters. Rochester took a 1-0 lead against Jeff Singer (2-2) in the top of the second inning as Taylor Gushue hit a home run - his second of the season.

The Red Wings added two more runs against Singer in the top of the third inning as Nick Banks hit a two-run double that scored Riley Adams and Jake Noll. Illdemaro Vargas hit an RBI double against Joe Gatto in the top of the fourth inning that extended Rochester's lead to 4-0. Joey Menses followed up with an RBI single against Zach Warren that gave Rochester a 5-0 lead.

Ofreidy Gomez allowed four runs in the top of the fifth inning that gave the Red Wings a 9-0 lead. Banks and Josh Palacios each hit two-run home runs in the inning. The 'Pigs finally scored two runs against Cory Abbott in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut Rochester's lead to 9-2. Josh Ockimey scored on a force out and Dalton Guthrie hit an RBI single that scored Chris Sharpe.

The Red Wings added two more runs in the top of the eighth inning against Jonathan Hennigan. Vargas hit his third home urn of the season and Noll hit a sacrifice fly that scored Meneses.

Matt Cronin (1-0) earned the win for Rochester as he pitched a scoreless inning of relief in the sixth inning.

The IronPigs and Red Wings will play again on Friday evening. First pitch at Coca-Cola Park is at 7:05 p.m.
