San Antonio held a 1-0 lead after a first period goal by Denis Shvidki but in the second period the Grizzlies would get the period's first 11 shots with Barrett Heisten and Jeff Bateman each scoring their first goal of the season giving Utah a 2-1 lead. The Grizzlies lead was short-lived. Tim Verbeek would get whistled for a hooking call and San Antonio would capitalize with a power play goal by Michel Periard tying the game at two goals apiece after two periods. The Rampage would regain the lead for good early in the third when Jaroslav Bednar scored his second of the season against the Grizzlies.
