Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, LA â The Louisiana IceGators and KADN Fox 15 will be giving away Chris Valicevic Thundersticks to the first 5,000 fans at Saturday's 7:05 p.m. home opener against the Mississippi Sea Wolves. The IceGators are retiring Valicevic's No. 24 jersey at Saturday's game. Individual tickets, starting at just $10 for adults and $9 for kids (ages 2-12 in any level) are now on sale at the Cajundome Box Office and Ticketmaster outlets.
Other big events for this week are "GMA on Ice" Tuesday from 5-7 a.m., the first Coach's Show Tuesday from 7-8 p.m. on Newsradio 105.1 KPEL, the Media Luncheon Wednesday from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., the Season Ticketholder Meet the Players event at the Cajundome Wednesday from 6:30-8:30, and the season opener Friday in Mississippi at 7:35 p.m.
Saturday, Valicevic will become the first IceGator in team history with his jersey retired. The seven-time All-Star and member of the ECHL's All 15-year anniversary team will also drop the opening puck. His jersey will be retired during the first intermission, and Valicevic will have a special autograph session after the second period.
Also at the home opener, the IceGators will have fun jumps and face painting outside starting at 5:30 p.m. In addition, local band Horizon will entertain fans also beginning at 5:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6 p.m.
The IceGators/Sea Wolves rivalry is as intense as ever, with the two teams both finishing 2002-03 with 92 points and atop the Southwest Division. Mississippi then went on to defeat Louisiana in three games in the division finals, riding the red-hot Greg Gardner to victory.
Louisiana won the 2002-03 season series with the Sea Wolves 8-3-1, including a 4-1-1 mark at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. The IceGators are 28-18-8 all-time against Mississippi, with an 11-10-6 regular-season mark in Biloxi. Former IceGators Louis Dumont and Roger Maxwell play for the Sea Wolves.
The IceGators, who are opening the season on the road for the ninth straight season, are 7-1-0 all-time in season openers and a perfect 8-0-0 in home openers.
Full season ticket packages, half season plans and Ice Packs are also on sale now and can be purchased by calling (337) 234-4423. Full season packages start at just $288, while children ages 4-12 can have season tickets for only $225 in any level, including rink side, with an adult purchase.
