Bombers to Hold Opening Night Extravaganza

HOORAY FOR OPENING NIGHT!!!: The Dayton Bombers have announced that they will be kicking off their 2003-2004 ECHL (America's Premier AA Hockey League) campaign with an Opening Night Extravaganza at 7:00 p.m. this Saturday, October 18 against the Cincinnati Cyclones at the Ervin J. Nutter Center. Ticket sales are moving at a brisk pace. Below is a quick list of some of the festivities planned as part of this special event:

- The Dayton Bombers will be giving away Bomber "Banger Sticks" to every fan in attendance, courtesy of Value City Furniture, Advance Auto Parts, Pontiac, and WTUE-FM.

- Prior to the game (4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.), a "Tailgate Bash" will take place on the concourse outside of Gate 3 at the Ervin J. Nutter Center, featuring a live remote courtesy of WTUE-FM, music, beverages, and other prize-winning activities and fun for all ages.

- In addition to the Bomber "Banger Stick" Promotional Giveaway, the first 5000 fans in attendance will also receive a Dayton Bombers' 2003-2004 Magnetic Schedule, compliments of TravelPlex, Trane Heating & Air Conditioning, and Two Men & A Truck.

- The Dayton Bombers' game, Jamie Ling's debut as Head Coach, launches the team's 13th season in the ECHL- America's Premier AA Hockey League and is the first of 11 head-to-head clashes against the intrastate rival Cincinnati Cyclones. Five of the head-to-head meetings throughout the season will be played at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.

"I'D LIKE TO GET TO KNOW YOU ...": Dayton Bombers fans can get the chance to meet the new 2003-2004 Dayton Bombers' players at the Mall at Fairfield Commons on Thursday, October 16 at 6:30 p.m. The new team will be announced at Center Court (Entrance A by JC Penney, lower level). Season ticketholders can pick up their season tickets at this time.

BIG MAN IN TOWN: The Dayton Bombers will have a familiar face at the players' bench come Saturday, albeit in a newer role. Jamie Ling, who wore a Bombers' sweater as a player from 1998-2003 and also served in the capacity of player/assistant coach, will make his professional regular season head coaching debut on Saturday against the Cyclones. Ling, a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia who spent his formative hockey years in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, was known as a fierce competitor during his seven-year professional career. A four-year college hockey product of the University of Notre Dame, Ling began his Bombers' tenure during the 1998-1999 season and quickly became one of the Bombers' most popular and productive performers. Ling finished his Bombers' playing career first in franchise career goals (132), short-handed goals (17), game-winning goals (23), and first goals (22). He is a three-time winner (1999-2001) of the ECHL's Sportsmanship Award and a two-time ECHL All-Star Game Participant (once as a starter and once as a captain).

Single game tickets for all Dayton Bombers' 2003-2004 home regular season games, including the Opening Night Extravaganza on Oct. 18, are on sale now.
