Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release

BULLIES REWIND: The 2003 Kelly Cup Champion Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies picked up exactly where they left off in May defeating the Trenton Titans and the Reading Royals twice last week to go a perfect 3-0-0 in ECHL pre-season play. With the warm-up games behind them, the Bullies now set their sights on Friday night at Boardwalk Hall where they will officially open their defense of the Kelly Cup against the Texas Wildcatters at 7:05PM.

On Tuesday in Lawrenceville, NJ, the Bullies renewed rivalries with Trenton as the teams fought to a 2-2 tie in regulation. After a scoreless overtime, center Josh Prudden (Andover, MA) tallied the game-winning goal in the 5th round of the shootout to give the Bullies a 3-2 victory. Friday in Reading, the Bullies and Royals hooked up for the first of two weekend games, with Atlantic City prevailing in the opener 4-2. The Bullies used an even-strength, power play, and shorthanded goal in the 1st period to cruise to the victory. Forward Sam Paolini (Rochester, NY) netted two goals in his Bullies debut. Sunday, the two teams met again in Red Bank, NJ, but the results proved the same as the Bullies thumped the Royals 5-1. Forward Jon Cullen (Alexandria, MN) tallied two goals and an assist in his first game action while center Luke Curtin (Rosemount, MN) chipped in a goal and an assist. Goaltender Jake Moreland (Grand Forks, ND) saw the bulk of the action in pre-season picking up two wins while Scott Stirling (Hull, MA) played half of each game on Tuesday and Sunday.

THROWN INTO THE FIRE: The Bullies opened pre-season play last Tuesday with 14 rookies on their roster, but nothing seemed to faze the youngsters as all fared extremely well in their first professional experience. In fact, the rookies tallied 11 out of the 12 goals scored by the Bullies during the pre-season. Pierre-Luc Sleigher (Montreal, PQ), Sam Paolini, and Jon Cullen each led the way for the Bullies with two goals apiece. Josh Prudden also added a goal and two assists, while goaltender Jake Moreland went the distance on Friday in Reading and recorded an impressive 41 saves for the win.

FOR STARTERS: The Bullies are 2-0 on opening night and 2-0 in home openers. Opening night has produced two nail-biters however as the Bullies defeated Wheeling 3-2 in their inaugural season and knocked off Roanoke 4-3 last year.
